Structured Doctoral Programmes
Post-graduate programmes
Post-graduate programmes are established to promote young academics at the institutions of higher education and are funded by DFG (German Research Foundation) for a up to nine years. Their key emphasis is put on the qualification of doctoral candidates within research programme with thematic focus and a structured training concept. An interdisciplinary approach of the post-graduate programme is expressly supported. The aim is to prepare doctoral candidates for the complexities of the job market in science and academics and simultaneously to encourage early scientific independence. (source: DFG).
Information on the current post-graduate programmes at the University of Rostock can be found here.
Further information on post-graduate programmes are provided on the websites of DFG.
| Applications must be directly submitted to the doctoral programmes. Please note the different terms of applications and the respective deadlines of the individual programmes. |
Doctoral programmes at the University of Rostock
1. Science and Engineering of New Materials
The doctoral candidates of the doctoral programme „Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Technology of New Materials (Science and Engineering of New Materials)“ form, together with the involved academic staff, the group „International Postgraduate Programme“ (IPP-group).
The curriculum of IPP consists of the key research areas of the work groups from the involved institutes and faculties. The doctoral candidates take part in the respective research programme under their doctoral programme. The modules of the study programme (e.g. publication skills or research and teaching skills) provide an efficient introduction into the fields of science and their interdisciplinary aspects. The contents of the experimental and theoretical work are supervised by professors and academic staff.
2. Demographic Change
The interdisciplinary doctoral programme „Demographic Change“ is thematically focussed on the causes and implications of the demographic change. It comprises a structured study programme of demography and political economics and is conducted in cooperation with the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDF) in Rostock.
The study programme in the field of demography is closely based on the programme of the European Doctoral School of Demography (EDSD) and refers to the education programme of the International Max Planck Research School for Demography (IMPRSD) in Rostock. Consequently, the doctoral candidates have the opportunity to benefit from the high methodological expertise and internationality of the MPIDF and simultaneously develop a comprehensive, systematic and interdisciplinary view of the demographic change. The doctoral programme is conducted in cooperation with the Rostock Centre for the Study of Demographic Change.
