Employee Representations

Our employee representative committees represent the employees of the University of Rostock against their employer. This right derives from the “Personnel Representation Act of the State Mecklenburg-Vorpommern”. According to §76 of the Personnel Representation Act, different employee representative committees have to be elected for scientific and non-scientific employees at universities: the employee representative committee of the scientific staff and the employee representative committee of the non-scientific staff represent the interests of the related group of employees. They are elected by these staff members only. Thus, there are two employee representative committees for the employers of the University of Rostock. According to §47 of the Personnel Representation Act, an overall employee representative committee is formed in such a case. This overall committee represents the joint, overall interests of all employees of the university.

Employees who have not reached the age of 18 or undertake an apprenticeship are represented by the Youth and Apprentice representation (JAV).

The representative body for disabled employees of the University of Rostock represents the interest of all disabled employees and those with an equivalent status of the University towards their employer. The ninth book of the Social Insurance Code (SGB IX) determines the legal requirements for a representative body for disabled employees, which can only be elected by disabled employees and those with an equivalent status.
