The Girls´ Day is a federal and state initiative of representatives from business, unions, universities and various other institutions, associations and stakeholders . The day aims to inspire girls and young women to choose a technical or natural science profession.

The University of Rostock played a decisive part in establishing this national day of action all over the state in 2002. Ever since, the Faculty of Informatics and Electrical Engineering, the Faculty of Marine Technology and Ship technology and the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, in particular the Institute of Physics here, offered many events for little female researchers and junior scientists.

This year, the Girls`Day will take place on the 14. April 2011.
