From winter term 2011/12 on, the University of Rostock is actively supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research regarding an improved quality of teaching. For this purpose, about 600 Mio Euros in total have been provided by the federal government within the framework of the project “Quality Pact Teaching – Commitment to Study and Teaching”.

With its project „Ensuring Quality: Professors, Students and Service Providers in dialogue on competence and research oriented teaching“, abbreviated “QualityDialogue”, the University of Rostock succeeded even during the first application round, together with 109 other universities and universities of applied sciences.

The project application had been preceded by Strength-Weaknesses-Analyses in the fields study, teaching and further education at the University of Rostock. With regard to the teaching quality, identified potentials have to be exploited and weaknesses have to be removed within the project “QualityDialogue”. The project concentrates on three fields of activities:

In a first step, existing quality assurance tools will be systematized and interlinked and an improved communication on quality objectives between university management and the faculties, the lecturers and the students of the University of Rostock is aspired.  This aims to improving the studying conditions and to implementing a quality management system as a basis for quality assurance in study, teaching and further education.

The second field of action addresses improved studying conditions in the bachelor and master study courses. Focuses are the content-related and methodological configuration of curricula and modules. The change in perspective from teaching to learning and the optimization of studying environment towards active knowledge acquisition shall be promoted in a target-oriented manner.

The professionalization of staff in the quality development and knowledge management fields is subject of the third field of action. Here, the establishment of the new job profile “Quality manager” is in the focus. These activities include an identification of adequate activities, a definition of quality requirements and standards and a strengthening and advancement of core competences.

The project starts in the beginning of winter term 2011/12 and will run for five years. Project manager is the Prorector for Study, Teaching and Evaluation, Prof. Dr. Stefan Göbel. In addition to four project staff members at the CQA, ten quality commissioners are in charge of coordinating and implementing the concept in the faculties, the language center and the International Office.
