State scholarship programme

Graduating at the seaside - the state scholarship programme makes it possible: The law passed on 20. November 2008 enables the University of Rostock to promote particularly well-qualified junior scientists systematically. These scholarships are usually awarded by every term. 

 

Related details are determined by the implementing regulations. These implementing regulations are currently in the process of approval. 

 

Scholarships are awarded by the beginning of every term. The procedure starts with a call for proposals. Those may apply who: 

 

  • have complemented university studies that qualifies for promotion, 
  • are able to verify far-above average study and examination results (special qualification), 
  • are admitted to a doctorate by the University of Rostock and are academically supervised by a professor or university lecturer 
  • plan a scientific project that is expected to provide a significant contribution to research 
  • plan a scientific project that is expected to improve the compatibility of the state's economy. 

 

A form has to be used for the application. This form and further details on the application are provided with the corresponding call for scholarship. 

 

Those persons are excluded from this scholarship programme: 

  • persons who have already completed their doctorate,
  • persons who do already receive or received a public or private sponsoring for the same project,
  • persons who do already receive or received a public or private sponsoring for another doctoral project,
  • persons who are in a training course or in a vocational introduction as far as this training was not interrupted for the purpose and duration of the project or
  • persons who work, unless it is only to a small extent and, thus, compatible with the scholarship

 

Properly submitted and complete applications undergo a two-stage selection procedure. The scholarship is awarded for one year at first. On application, the scholarship is extended for a second year. Usually, the doctoral project should be completed successfully after two years. If this was not possible for special reasons, there is the opportunity to get a third prolongation for one year.

 

The monthly basic scholarship amounts to 1100 EUR. In special cases, a family allowance of 150 Euros for the first child and of 100 Euro for each additional child is paid.

 

In case a longer stay abroad is necessary to realize the doctoral project, the state scholarship can be complemented by an additional DAAD scholarship for this purpose. This additional scholarship has to be applied upon separately.
