Request for proposals

Subject to available funding, the University of Rostock will provide financial aid for scholarships in preparation for doctorates in accordance with the State Postgraduate Scholarship Act Mecklenburg-Vorpommern of 20.11.2008.

 

To support young researchers and scientists of the future

 

a)

2 state-funded scholarships are awarded to young academics with outstanding achievements particularly in human and social sciences and law

 

and                                                                   

 

b)

up to 5 scholarships funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) are awarded to young academics with outstanding achievements particularly in the subject areas mathematics and natural sciences, computer sciences, engineering sciences, medicine, agricultural sciences and economic sciences. In individual cases the ESF funds can be used to support doctorates of other subject areas than those mentioned, if the project gives reason to expect an economic exploitation based on the scientific results and thus makes a contribution to improve the competitiveness of the country’s economy.

Eligibility criteria

a) A state-funded scholarship in preparation of doctorates can be awarded to individuals, who

  1. completed university studies that qualify for the admission to the PhD programme,
  2. can prove extraordinary study and examination results* (special qualification)
  3. are admitted to the PhD programme of the University of Rostock and are scientifically supervised by a professor or university teacher and
  4. intend to launch a scientific project that is expected to make a significant contribution in research.

  • bei Bewerberinnen/Bewerbern aus Master-, Magister-, Diplom- oder Lehramtsstudiengängen Abschlüsse mit dem Prädikat "sehr gut" oder besser (d. h. ein Notendurchschnitt 1,5 und besser);
  • für Bewerberinnen/Bewerber der Juristischen Fakultät ein Erstes Juristisches Staatsexamen mit mindestens 9 Punkten;
  • für Bewerberinnen/Bewerber der Medizinischen Fakultät im Ersten Abschnitt der Ärztlichen Prüfung eine Mindestnote von 1,5 sowie Leistungsnachweise mit der Note 2 in den Fächern

    • QB1 Epidemiologie, medizinische Biometrie und medizinische Informatik,
    • QB2 Geschichte, Theorie, Ethik der Medizin sowie
    • QB3 Gesundheitsökonomie, Gesundheitssystem, Öffentliche Gesundheitspflege

 

b)  Scholarships in preparation for the doctorate funded by the European Social Fund can be awarded to individuals, who

  1. meet the requirements mentioned under a) 1 to 3 and
  2. intend to launch a scientific project that is expected to make a significant contribution to improve the competitiveness of the country’s economy.  

Exclusion criteria

Funding will not be granted, if the applicant or scholarship holder

  1. already holds a doctorate,
  2. receives or has already received funding for the same project from public or private institutions,
  3. receives or has already received funding for a different PhD procedure from public or private institutions,
  4. is engaged in a training course or trainee programme, as far as the training is not interrupted for the time and purpose of the intended project or
  5. is employed unless the employment is regarded minor and is reconcilable with the funding.

Funding terms

  • The approval is initially given for one year.
  • The regular funding period is 2 years.
  • The funding can be extended by 6 months in the first instance and an additional maximum period of another 6 months.
  • The monthly scholarship amounts to 1,100€.
  • If applicable, a family allowance of 150€ for the first child and 100€ for each additional child can be granted per month.
  • In-kind benefits can be granted to a minor extent, if the ongoing doctoral project is integrated into a postgraduate research programme of DFG (German Research Foundation) or in one of the International Max Planck Research Schools.

There is no legal entitlement to funding.
