The university has, under the supervision of the Ministry of Education, the mandate to award scholarships and material expenses allowances. 

The awarding commission, in cooperation with the relevant faculties, decides whether every single applicant is qualified and his/her project worthy of promotion. The awarding commission decisions are under the legal supervision of the Ministry of Education. 

The members of the awarding commission are:

• the rector or, as his/her representation, a vice-rector as the head of the awarding commission,

• at least two professors,

• one research or artistic assistant or research or artistic staff member or teacher on special issues, 

• one graduate.

The awarding commission members are elected by the Academic Senate of the university. In addition, a representation is elected for every commission member. The period of office for members amounts to two years, for student members one year. Re-elections are possible.
