Graduate survey

Universities prepare for occupational activities that require an application of scientific knowledge and methods (§ 2 para 1 German Higher Education Framework Act). If and how they fulfil this education task is under discussion – particular at times when knowledge society and globalisation have entered at least the education policy discourse.

The survey among graduates enables universities to account their performance: Former students as consumers of the provided academic education report how successful their change from university to working life has been and evaluate the quality of their completed studies (not only) regarding the obtained professional competences. Thus, universities and the interested public get quantitative data and a qualitative evaluation how far their studies fulfilled their educational mandate.

Surveys as instruments have been used, comprehensively or for single courses of study, at several universities. The University of Rostock has executed regular graduate surveys from 1998 on in all study courses. These investigations are part of an integrated course and vocational guidance concept which includes consultancy regarding the change from university to working life, with surveys on study and training evaluation, thus aiming primarily to implementing the study reform.

The CQA informs and advises you regarding graduate survey questions at the University of Rostock.
