General information

The procedure

All graduates of a year (i.e. of a winter term and the subsequent summer term) receive a questionnaire by the end of the year. They are asked to evaluate their studies retrospectively and to provide information on their entry into the job market. Their graduation dates back 14 to 24 months then, depending on the date of exmatriculation.

The interrogation was started in 1994/95. So far, nearly identical questionnaires were used to make the results comparable between the years of graduation. The survey of the year 2007 was adapted due to an increased number of bachelor and master degrees.

For interrogating the graduates 2006/07, the questionnaire was completely reviewed and extended. Background is the University of Rostock's participation in a large-scale national project under the lead management of the INCHER (International Centre of University Research) Kassel. Further information on this project are available at  http://www.uni-kassel.de/incher/absolventen/.

The questionnaire

The questionnaire refers to the following topics

  • Study programme (duration, change of the university/subject, stays abroad, practical training),
  • Career entry (current employment, search unemployment after the studies, classification, extent, industrial sector, location of the first professional employment after study completion)
  • Study review (Evaluation of the study reality, classification of the education performance within the context of professional requirements).

The draft of this questionnaire is based on surveys carried out at the HIS (University information system, Hannover), the University “Carl von Ossietzky”, Oldenburg, International Centre for Higher Education Research Kassel (INCHER) (since 2008).

Subject groups

For result assessment, the study courses of the University of Rostock are allocated to eight subject groups. Study courses without graduates in the relevant period are not listed here.
