Prof. Dr. Gesine Witt studied chemistry and graduated at the University of Rostock in 1988. Only three years later she submitted her doctoral thesis. In 2001, she was selected as Heisenberg stipendiary of the German Research Foundation. Until early 2007, Prof. Dr. Witt worked at the Baltic Sea Research Institute in Warnemuende. Afterwards she accepted a professorship at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences.
Prof. Dr. Gesine Witt was involved in research and teaching on various key issues, including trace and ultratrace analysis of foreign organic matters in limnic and marine waters and the development, calibration and evaluation of passive and equilibrium samplers for the analytical measurement of polar and non-polar organic trace elements in waters and biota.
Prof. Dr. Gesine Witt is lecturer in the postgraduate master study programme „Environmental Protection“ and acted as chairman of the examination board of this study programme until 2007.
