Prof. Dr. Hendrik Schubert studied Marine Ecology at the University of Rostock from 1982 to 1987. During his subsequent research studies, he worked on the topic Photosynthesis of green-blue alga. He graduated as doctor in 1990 after changing to the Institute of Biochemistry of the Medical Department in 1988. After obtaining his doctorate degree, he changed to the Chair of Ecology (Prof. Dr. Schiewer) as assistant. Being awarded with the Leopoldina sponsorship prize in 1992, an own research team was established in 1994, subsequent to a one-year research stay in Amsterdam. Prof. Schubert completed his habilitation in 1996 and obtained the venia legendi for the fields “Ecology” and “Plant physiology”. His appointment as Professor of Plant ecology (C3) led him to the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-University of Greifswald before he was appointed as Professor of Aquatic Ecology at the University of Rostock (C4) in 2002. Since 2004, he has been the managing director of the Institute of Biosciences. He was the president of the German section of the »International Network for Ecological long-term Research« (ILTER-D) from 2005 to 2006 (vice-president from 2006 on) and has been the president of the »Baltic Marine Biologists« since 2007.
Prof. Dr. Hendrik Schubert teaches the further education master courses „Environmental education“ and „Environment & Education“.
