Prof. Dr. Ralf Bill studied Surveying at the University of Applied Sciences in Mainz and the universities of Karlsruhe and Berlin. Afterwards, he worked as research assistant at the universities of Karlsruhe and Stuttgart and development engineer in Switzerland. He holds the Chair of Geodesy and Geoinformatics at the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Department of Land Management and Environmental protection at the University of Rostock. He is involved into the extra occupational master study course “Environmental protection” as university lecturer and has provided his experiences in further education and distance studying for many years now. His fields of research are, amongst others, remote sensing and GIS, in particular multimedia geo-information systems and GIS web-based technologies. In addition, Prof. Dr. Bill is the head of the advisory board for information, communication and media at the University of Rostock.

He was one of the first members of the scientific advisory board for Quality Assurance in Study and Further Education.
