Dr. Sigrun Nickel obtained her master’s degree in German language and literature, paedagogics and sociology and graduated with a scholarship of the Hans Böckler Foundation in social sciences on the topic “Participatory management of universities”. She has worked in various fields of university management and university research for 16 years.

She was a member of the university management and the head of the department of “Communication and strategic university development” at the University of Economic and Politics (HWP) Hamburg. Later, Dr. Nickel worked, amongst others, as scientific head of the project “University development” (ProUni) of the University of Hamburg and as research assistant in the department “University research” of the IFF (Interdisciplinary Faculty of Research and Further education) in Vienna/Austria.

She has been consultant and researcher at the CHE Consult GmbH of the University Development Centre (CHE) since October 2005. Her main fields of activity were quality management, university governance and human resource development. In addition, Dr. Nickel worked as lecturer in several university management study courses and further education seminars. She is jointly responsible for conception and implementation of the CHE’s further education programme “University course – Further education for science management”.
