After finishing his studies of electrical engineering and electronics in 1994, Sven Schmeil completed a biennial course at the Academy of Economy and Social Sciences of the Employees Chamber Bremen to become a consultant for environmental impact assessment. Since then he has been working at the Office for Environmental Protection of the Hanseatic City of Rostock and is responsible for local environmental planning. In 2002, he completed his postgraduate studies of environmental protection at the University of Rostock and graduated in environmental sciences focusing on technical environmental protection. Sven Schmeil specialises in the implementation and coordination of environmental impact assessments (EIA) and strategic environmental assessments (SEA), in particular land use planning, provision and GIS-based visualization of assessment basis and results to perform environmental assessments. He is also involved in the development of an environmental information system.

Since 2002, Sven Schmeil has worked as lecturer under the extra-occupational master study programme „Environmental Protection”, and can bring his methodical and practical experience to this field.
