What does a study cost?
The University of Rostock does not collect fees for studying. However, to study costs money, because housing, food and equipment must be paid for.
But the costs of living in Rostock are comparatively low relative to other cities.

Financing (BAföG, scholarships and student loans)
No tuition fees have to be paid at the University of Rostock. Still, students have to pay for board, lodging and working materials. Though, the living expenses in Rostock are comparatively low.
Average monthly expenditures of a student
Many students get financial support from their parents. Depending on course of study and individual time management, there is the opportunity to earn money in part-time jobs – in Rostock with better chances than one might anticipate, last but not least due to the tourism sector. The best option is a job as student assistant, earning money from working in his own field of study.
Still, there are several funding opportunities. In addition to "BAföG" (according to the Professional Education Subsidy Act) which is offered nation-wide there are various scholarships offered by foundations and student loans provided by banks. Postgraduate scholarships of the State are available for doctoral students, for dissertations at the Interdisciplinary Faculty one can apply for INF scholarships. Germany Scholarship
The „Germany Scholarship“ of the Federal Government is a new national scholarship program which addresses particularly gifted and high-achieving students at German universities. The University of Rostock welcomes and supports this program. The university intends to award the first related scholarships in winter term 2011/2012.
The scholarships worth 300 Euro per month are financed by private contributors (companies, foundations, private persons) and the federal government jointly.
