For students living with their parents without surcharges (health insurance and nursing insurance) the standard rate amounts to 414 Euro. Under consideration of all surcharges, the maximum financial aid amounts to 643 Euro for students without children, who are living away from home. Students with children can receive an additional 113 Euro per month for the first child and 85 Euro for each additional child.
In general BAföG is divided into two parts: one-half is a credit-free loan, the other half is a grant. Repayment begins five years after study completion as monthly instalments. In case of fast or successful study completion you can take advantage of various waiver programs; the repayment is limited to a maximum amount of 10,000 Euro.
