The University of Rostock is a comprehensive university

That means that the major scientific departments – business sciences, humanities, engineering sciences, law, medicine, natural sciences and theology – are represented both in research and education at the University of Rostock. A comprehensive university is entitled to conduct doctorate and habilitation (postdoctoral qualifications) procedures in all these departments.
The different scientific departments are represented in the structuring of the university into faculties. The faculties offer different courses of study, a general overview of all courses of study from A-Z underscores the wide range and variety of the study program at Rostock University.
The courses of study can be completed with different academic degrees. A differentiation is made between undergraduate and (post)graduate courses of study.
The undergraduate courses of study lead to the first academic degree – bachelor, diploma or state examination. They are a requirement for the admission to a postgraduate course of study (master degree). What to study?
Before you make a decision on what to study, it is important to identify your own interests and abilities and strengths and weaknesses. This will help you to evaluate the complexity and variety of study options and the requirements in the different fields of study. The self-assessment test for prospective students is a useful tool for self-recognition and self-assessment.
Currently, there are about 14,500 students enrolled at the University of Rostock. Studies and teaching are characterized by a close teacher-student relation. Central service facilities like the language centre, the university IT and media centre and the career service provide students with important assistance to enhance their expertise and skills. The International Office helps to organize studies and internships abroad and gives consultancy and support to foreign students at the university.
