An admission restriction applies for this study course/subject. Thus, an application is required. For the study courses Dentistry and Human medicine, this is controlled for entire Germany by the Central Office for the Distribution of Study Places. Study content and objectives
The study course Dentistry provides a basic scientific as well as practically oriented education. It is divided into a preclinical and a clinical university study period with five terms each. In addition to systematic lectures, practical demonstrations and tutorials as well as courses and seminars, preferably in small groups, are offered. The education on medical First Aid has to be passed prior to the dental pre-exam. The clinical period of the study course Dentistry is characterised by a patent-related, prevention-oriented education under favourable technical and spatial conditions. Students get in close contact with patients and course assistants while a permanent long-term treatment of the same patient over 2 years (4 terms) is ensured.
The dental exams
- the natural science pre-exam after a study period of 2 terms
- the dental pre-exam after a study period of 2.5 years (after 5 terms)
- the dental exam (state examination) in the end of a five years dentistry study course (after 10 terms)
Opportunities for continuing studies
To improve the job perspective, students may continue their studies in a postgraduate Master of Science study course. These are offered regarding the fields orthodontics, maxillo-facial surgery, dental prosthetics and dental preservation, the latter offered with the fields endodontics, pedodontics and primary prophylaxis.
