Enrolment
There is an admission restriction for foreign students. Thus, an application is required. It has to be submitted between 1. June and 15. July (or from the 1. December to the 15. January for Summer term). The application form You will find at: application form.
Admission requirements
(1) As main admission requirement for the master study course German studies (Master), a first job-qualifying university degree has to be proven.
(2) The admission for the master study course German studies (Master) at the University of Rostock is subject to the following additional conditions:
1. The first university degree (bachelor degree or State teaching examination) has to be proven in German studies (first or second subject).
2. Foreign applicants have to proof a proficiency of German on level C1 (Joint European Reference system). DSH 2 and TestDaF TCN 4-5 or equivalent proofs are accepted. Native speakers are released from this obligation.
(3) The admission requirements according to section 2 have to be proven with certified copies of the related certificates enclosed to the application for admission to study in this study course. The examination board decides upon the acceptance of the proof. The acknowledgement of sufficient proficiency of German language according to section 2, pt. 2 is given by the examination board upon request on the basis of recommendations given by the University of Rostock’s language centre.
(4) In case the leaving certificate has not been issued until the due date, the admission procedure will be based on the University of Rostock’s statutes on Study Admission (URZS) in its currently valid version.
(5) In individual cases, applicants who do not meet the criteria listed under section 2 can be accepted in case they are expected to be particularly qualified for the master study course. Related matriculation applications have an enclosure (one page) that describes why the candidate has chosen this study course and considers him/herself to be qualified for it. These applications are presented to the examination board for decision. The examination board may decide to invite the applicant for a personal clarifying meeting. Admission can also be given under certain conditions.
Study subject and objectives
The students acquire scientific knowledge and working methods in the fields of German language and literature.
Language and literature shall be made comprehensible in its historical, cultural, social and regional context and differentiation. Another focus will be modern communication conditions and media culture. Special lectures will make students acquainted with theories and techniques of processing and presenting information. During the interdisciplinary studies you will get an insight into other scientific disciplines, to be chosen freely, that exceed the professional studies.
