Content and objectives of the studies
The study course Latin studies deals with Latin language and Roman literature. The focus is put on authors of the 1st pre-Christian century and the 1st post-Christian century here, but the literature of Late Antiquity, the Middle Ages and Renaissance as well as the history of the Latin reception until present times are taken in to consideration, too.
The studies shall enable the students to understand the literature of the Romans in context of the ancient culture and society and to appreciate its importance for later cultural epochs. The scientific work with Latin texts on the basis of a profound understanding of Latin language is the focus of the studies.
