Study subject content and objectives
The Bachelor of Arts in political sciences is a multifunctional degree that combines scientific basic qualification with analytical-methodological skills and practical approach. This is related to a self-conception of political sciences as a theoretical discipline. A basic canon of political science knowledge, skills and methodological competences is the teaching focus. They are combined with key qualifications of communicative competences and practical skills.
Firstly, political sciences deal with the frame conditions of politics and political acting. Secondly, they are the analysis of political processes and its players. Thirdly, single fields of politics are investigated: Development policy, social policy, regional and environmental policy. These different dimensions of politics refer to national and international politics. The access to these fields can be an empirical one but also a historical-ideological and theoretical one. The three core areas of political sciences are presented at the institute: comparative government politics, international politics and political theory and history of ideas.
