The most important aspects at a glance

The Bachelor study course to be implemented as combination of two partial study courses (first and second subject) results into the first academic degree "Bachelor of Arts" (B.A.). The standard period of study amounts to six terms. After four more terms, the second academic degree, "Master of Arts", can be acquired.

The bachelor study course is structured – depending on the chosen subject combination – into compulsory and optional (compulsory) modules. In addition, lectures in the fields “Interdisciplinary studies” (IDS) and “Teaching competence” are offered.

The module "Interdisziplinary studies/foreign language competence"

These are lectures which do not belong to the specialized studies – as from the fields foreign languages, literature and culture, history, philosophy, psychology as well as educational sciences and business sciences, sociology, political sciences and the offers of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural sciences the students may choose from.

There are three options to choose from:

Option 1: Lecture series + 2 x 2 SWS lectures/seminars according to free choice, examination performance: report on the gained personal knowledge

Option 2: Lecture series + 2 x 3 LP language courses or lecture series + 2 SWS lectures/seminars according to free choice + 3 LP language courses, examination performance: report on the gained personal knowledge + module examinations related to the language courses

Option 3: 4 x 3 LP language courses, examination courses: four modules – module examination of the language courses

The module "Teaching competence"

Included into the B.A. study course as first subject is a teaching competence education (processing and presentation of information, work with media, moderation opportunities) that provides the key qualifications for working in this profession. The lectures/seminars on teaching competence are indicated in the course catalogue and include the scope of one module (12 CP).

Term definitions

SWS: SWS means weekly hours per term. One SWS is 45 minutes taken weekly over one term. In the end of the term, one gets a participation certificate or an achievement certificate on the one taken SWS

LP: Credit points

Credit points have to be acquired during the studies. They are a quantitative measure for the workload of the students related to their studies. 60 credit points average have to be acquired per year of study, 30 per term, which corresponds to a workload of about 1800 hours per year of study respectively 900 hours per term. The acquisition of credit points demands a successful participation in lectures/seminars or successful study performance and is linked to passing the relevant module examination.
