Erasmus Mundus Study Program - Integrated Advanced Ship Design – EMship

In cooperation with the Université de Liège (Belgium), Ecole Centrale de Nantes (France), University Genoa (Italy), Technical University Szczecin (Poland) and the University in Galati (Rumania) the University of Rostock offers an Erasmus Mundus Master study program “Integrated Advanced Ship Design”. Students holding a Master Degree in an engineering discipline have the outstanding opportunity to further qualify in the diverse fields of Ship Design. Students enrol for the three semester full time program at the Université de Liège, for the second semester they take lectures at the Ecole Centrale de Nantes. In the third semester students work in a company of the maritime industry for an internship, parallel to lectures to be taken in any of the further partner institutions. After the defence of the Master Thesis, students finish their studies at the University of Rostock.

The program offers the unique opportunity to take lectures in a coherent curriculum being offered at six universities in six different European countries. All lectures are held in English.

To be able to select the best students for this challenging program and at the same time to continuously develop the educational program to the needs of the students, six additional universities are associated partners of the EMship program: the University of Michigan (USA), the University of Osaka (Japan), the Federal University of Amazon (Brazil), the Vietnam Maritime University (Vietnam), the University of New South Wale (Australia) and the University of Sciences and Technology of Oran Mohamed Boudiaf (Algeria).

The double degree program offers the advantage over existing programs in:

  • the opportunity to acquire a sound knowledge through the diverse expertise of the partner universities
  • the opportunity to develop inter cultural competences through a real international student community at three universities in three countries
  • all lectures are given in English
  • an intership in which students work in companies of the European maritime industry which form the basis of the Master Thesis
  • a coherent curriculum in integrated and advanced ship design being taught at three universities
  • a double degree of the Université de Liège and the Ecole Centrale de Nantes
  • language courses in at least two additional languages
