Application for international students

 

We are pleased to see that you are interested in studying at the University of Rostock.

 

Before starting the related application procedure, we kindly ask you to check if your qualifications acquired abroad qualify you for studying at the University of Rostock.
The database anabin (Acceptance and Evaluation of foreign education certificates) allows a first assessment of your education’s value with regard to the German education system.

 

International prospective students with German university entrance qualification...

…submit an  online applcation directly to the University of Rostock (only for study courses Medicine and Dentistry).

 

International prospective students with foreign university entrance qualification...

submit an application to uni-assist, if

  • they acquired their university entrance qualification (Abitur, A-Levels, High School Diploma, Baccalaureat, Gaocao a.o.) abroad and
  • have only studied abroad so far.



International prospective students from EU or European or European Economic Area (EEA) countries as well as applicants resident in Germany who do not belong to the group of persons indicated above but have family members who are employed in German

... submit their application to hochschulstart.de (former Central Office for the Allocation of Study Places (ZVS), if

  • they are interested in studying Medicine or Dentistry. 

Studying Medicine or Dentistry at the University of Rostock requires a proof of language proficiency DSH2.

 ... submit an application to uni-assist, if

  • they are interested in Bachelor or Teaching profession study courses.

 

 

 

International students address their application directly to the University of Rostock...

... if

  • They are interested in a dissertation or master study course
  • They are graduates of a German Study College

  • They are interested in visiting studies (contact the International Office for further information)

Application documents

  • Completely filled in and signed application  (German versionEnglish version
  • Certificate (certified copy) that qualifies you for studying at a university in your home country in German or English translation
  • All university certificates and diploma in national language and in German or English translation
  • Proof of sufficient German language skills (ZMP - Zentrale Mittelstufenprüfung of Goethe Institute, at least mark „Good“, German Language University Entrance Examination for foreign applicants DSH 2 or TestDaF with a result sufficient for the applied university admission)

uni-assist

The University of Rostock has entered the application cooperation called Work and Service Office for International Student Applications  (uni-assist). Here, your application documents will be pre-checked against payment.

Application documents sent directly to the University of Rostock will be forwarded to uni-assist or returned without any processing.

 

 

Application deadlines

Summer term: 01 December to 15 January of the relevant year for advanced semesters and certain master study courses

There is no opportunity to apply as first-year student for basic study courses for the summer term at the University of Rostock.

Winter term:  01 May to 15 July of the relevant year for first and advanced semesters

 

Copy of the original certificate or copies of certificate translations

The University of Rostock demands copies of the original certificate (in original language) and, in addition, copies of certificate translation. Please keep in mind to send certified copies but never original certificates or documents.

 

 

Certified copies

The University of Rostock demands an official certification. Official means that the public authority or institution which has issued the certificate confirms the conformity of the copy with the original with a round stamp (official seal).

Official certifications can be issued abroad by:

  • German embassy and consulates
  • The school or university which has issued the certificate
  • A notary that adds an apostille stamp to the copy 

Inside Germany, officially certified copies can be issued by:

  • A German, seal-bearing authority
  • A Notary
  • A certified translator of the relevant language, officially sworn-in in Germany
  • A consulate or an embassy of the country of origin in Germany

 

Translations

The University of Rostock accepts translations in German and English language. All translations have to be issued by a certified and sworn-in translator.

 

Incomplete documents or those submitted with delay cannot be taken into consideration. Uncertified copies will not be accepted.

You will be informed about the decision made during the University of Rostock’s admission procedure in writing after your documents have been checked (generally four to six weeks after closing date for applications).
