Change of university

There can be various reasons for changing university: Change to a desired place or desired university, particularly the specialisation opportunities of other universities, broadening the horizon, a relationship, family or friends…

The admission restriction for certain study courses does mostly apply for the advanced semesters, too. Thus, it is essential for getting a study place at the desired university to inform about application modalities and enrolment prerequisites in due time.

In general, a change of university can take place in the beginning of every term.

Changing from the University of Rostock to another university

First, you have to inform about the application and enrolment conditions at the new university. Admission restricted study courses require an application in any case. Keep in mind: The application periods might differ from university to university! If you wish to continue your studies in the same or a similar course of study at the other university, many of the achievements gained at the University of Rostock so far can be credited in most cases. However, additional or other results required by the other university may result into a delay of your studies. The decision on your application is usually made after the re-registration period. To be on the safe side, you should re-register at the University of Rostock in due time. If your application was approved, you should confirm the acceptance of the study place at your new university and, only after, exmatriculate according to the normal procedure at the University of Rostock and enrol at the new university.

For study courses without admission restrictions you may enrol within the enrolment periods (see Enrolment ).

When changing into an advanced semester of a study course without admission restrictions you are enroled, in principle, for the next higher semester. For this, you have to contact the examination office of the University of Rostock in advance regarding the acceptance of study results achieved so far. There, you have to check whether it would be possible for you to study according to the examination regulations (examination deadlines) of the University of Rostock.

An overview about admission restricted study courses in advanced semesters is available here. If admission restrictions apply for your desired study courses, a prior application in due time is required.

The application deadlines of advanced students are:
For the winter term            01.06. to 15.07. of the year
For the summer term         01.12. to 15.01. of the year
The 15.07. and 15.01. are cut-off deadlines!
Delayed applications cannot be taken into consideration.

As the education at the University of Rostock is structured according to study semesters, starting with the winter term each, you may apply for the winter term only for uneven semesters (1., 3. a. s. o.) and for the summer term only for even semesters (2., 4. a. s. o.).

Information on insufficient documents are displayed on the backside of the application form. Missing documents can be submitted later with a related notice until the 10.9. of the year (winter term) or the 10.3. of the year (summer term). The admission application for advanced semesters is available here.

Further information are available at Application.

Exchange of study places

Any exchange of study places has to be based on the approval of both involved universities. The University of Rostock approves this only in exceptional cases. In general, there is no claim for the university’s approval.

1. Semester (prior to start of the courses)

For study courses with local admission restriction and in case a study place was allocated by the ZVS, there can only be an exchange if both exchange partners got their admission to study within the same quota (performance, waiting period).

If you got a study place in the University of Rostock’s selection procedure (AdH), no exchange is possible

Advanced semesters

Prerequisites for an application are:
1. Both exchange partners have completed the same amount of subject semesters successfully
2. Both exchange partners have the same performance level
3. Both exchange partners have not obtained their place to study on the basis of a judicial resolution.

We kindly ask you to use the related  application form  provided by the University of Rostock for study place exchange.
