General requirements

For the basic study courses at the University of Rostock, Germans and “Bildungsinländer” (education residents) need a valid university entrance qualification. Bildungsinländer are foreigners or stateless persons that acquired a university entrance qualification at a German school abroad or in Germany.

The university entrance qualification can be a general (Abitur) or subject-related university qualification.

Craftsmen, technicians, certified expert and owners of equated degrees are granted a general university admission right which means that they are entitled to study any subject of their choice at the University of Rostock without further aptitude tests or probation periods. Details are regulated by the qualification provisions M-V:  Qualifikationsverordnung M-V.

Germans with a degree obtained abroad may inquire whether they are entitled to study at a university in advance via the information system for acceptance of international degrees (anabin).

Some study courses or subjects are admission restricted and require a prior admission or additional requirements (see subject-specific requirements)
