The ability to speak German is one of the central requirements for studying at a German university. The required German language proficiency depends on the course you have chosen, but is usually C1 level (roughly at the level of a native speaker) or sometimes, at least a B2 level in a few cases.
The Student's Office provides an overview of the language skills required for your chosen course.
Intensive German language course in preparation for university
Since July 2016, International House has been working with the Language Centre of the University of Rostock to offer intensive German language courses to prepare students for their studies.
The main classes are held in the morning by qualified teachers of German as a foreign language. In addition to classes, there are tutorials in the afternoon, where the emphasis is on speaking German. The tutors use selected materials (topics for discussion, videos, etc.) to encourage course participants to speak German. The aim is for the participants to talk to each other as much as possible in order to improve their language skills. Topics include the political system and history of Germany and Europe.
