Agrarwissenschaften (Bachelor of Science)

Abstract for international prospects

Agricultural Sciences (B.Sc.)

Application period: 1st of May to 15th of July via Uni Assist

Language of instruction: German (B2)

Start of study: Each winter term (01.10.)

More information:

The Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Sciences teaches students about the sustainable production of healthy foods, renewable raw materials and renewable energies. Students are given the tools to solve the complex tasks that arise when designing and developing rural space.

Those tools are developed on the basis of primarily scientific working methods to investigate the functional mechanisms of plant and animal organisms and their ecosystems.

Students will also become familiar with working methods from the economic and social sciences.

Applicants should have good knowledge of biology, chemistry and mathematics and an interest in discovering the basic principles of nature. By the start of the course, applicants must show that they have arranged a 12-week internship. At least 6 weeks of the internship must be completed before the end of the course.

During the 1st semester, students will learn or refresh their knowledge of the principles of the natural and social sciences. This will be followed by the general principles of the agricultural sciences and specific study of the agricultural sciences. From the 5th semester, students can take various compulsory elective modules to develop their skills according to individual interests, with the aim of preparing for one of the research-based Master's courses in the three research areas of animals, plants and soil/water/location. Students can also choose compulsory elective modules appropriate for a career after their Bachelor's degree.

Non-university research institutions, such as the Leibniz Institute for Farm Animal Biology (FBN) and the State Research Centre for Agriculture and Fisheries (LFA), also work with the faculty to link the latest research findings to current issues in practice.

The student-to-professor ratio at the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences is outstanding among universities in Germany. You are guaranteed a seat at every lecture and seminar. The campus-style site in the south of the city creates a relaxed atmosphere that facilitates studying together and gives students the space for creativity.

Typical careers for agricultural science graduates include: management of agricultural production companies, animal and seed breeding, trade in agricultural products, the downstream food industry, the bioenergy sector and the production, marketing and processing of renewable raw materials.
