Greetings from the Rector for the summer semester
Dear newly enrolled students,
Dear guests from abroad,
The Corona Pandemic makes your start into your studies unique. Arriving in Rostock, getting to know our university, being accepted into our community of teachers and students - everything is difficult. All the more reason for me to welcome you all and assure you that we will try to make the best of it for you. With the University of Rostock you have chosen a beautifully located, future-oriented, family-friendly presence university and not a distance learning university and yet the semester starts digitally on April 20th. We do not know yet when presence teaching will be possible again, but as soon as we know, we will inform you.
It is in line with our values that we are putting our actions in these weeks into caring for those who are particularly vulnerable, such as the elderly, children and those in need of care, all those who, whether in the medical field or in daily life, maintain the necessary care.
In all faculties and institutions of the University, we would like to make the best of this situation for you, to enable you to study productively and successfully, to provide you with good information and to open up the many opportunities for you to shape the new phase of your life in Rostock.
Therefore, first of all we would like to welcome you all. We are sure that you will feel at home up here on the Baltic Sea in Rostock and its university.
Please use the information of the student portal regularly. The student secretariat, the student counselling service with the subject advisors, the student union, the student councils, the Stura, the student parliament and the general student committee AStA: with all of them you will find an open ear, important advice and concrete support—be it regarding your course of studies, your subjects, the search for a place in a hall of residence, a room or a shared flat, deadlines and formalities, insurances, BAföG, semester ticket or job offers or even the planning of a semester abroad.
For each and every one of you there are—after the end of the Corona measures—interesting offers of sporting activities in university sports or numerous clubs, of cultural life starting with the University of Music and Drama, cinemas, the theatre or even orchestras or choirs.
In this sense once again: Welcome to the University of Rostock!
Stay healthy and confident!
Your Rector Wolfgang Schareck
