Short description of the project: 

The aim of the project is to fundamentally rethink simulation studies and to make argumentation and dialectics an integral and explicit part of the entire research process.

Project title: An educational underdog outside the established institutions: Heinrich Schliemann and the 19th century

Short description of the project: 

This project examines Heinrich Schliemann’s educational background, as described by Schliemann himself in his personal accounts (diaries, correspondence), and how this account must be analysed from a source-critical perspective.

Project title: Tunable-wavelength laser ionisation mass spectrometry for the chemical and structural characterisation of energy materials

Short description of the project: 

The project involves the development of wavelength-resolved laser ionisation at atmospheric pressure as a new mass spectrometric analytical method for characterising complex aromatic mixtures.

Project title: NavUS-3D: An Anatomy-Informed Navigation and Guidance System for 3D Abdominal Ultrasound in Autonomous Diagnostic and Interventional Procedures

Short description of the project:

The aim of the project is to develop a generalised framework for the analysis of 3D ultrasound image data and navigation within the abdomen. It makes novel contributions in three areas: feature-based image analysis, graph-based structure classification and context-aware navigation.

Project title: Genomics of invasive widow spiders

Project leader: Dr. Vladislav Ivanov (Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Institute of Biological Sciences)

Short description of the project:

The project will investigate the genomic architecture of invasive widow spiders, with a focus on the Australian redback spider (Latrodectus hasselti). The results are intended to facilitate targeted sampling in Australia and other countries, and the high-quality chromosome-genome sequence will support the objectives of the DFG project on the comparative genomics of four widow spider species.

Project title: Gender differences in cerebrovascular function during exercise

Short description of the project:

The aim is to investigate how MCAv differs between younger and older men and women during maximum exertion whilst cycling and rowing. In addition, the study will analyse, amongst other things, the influence of oestrogen and different menstrual cycle patterns on cerebral blood flow regulation in premenopausal women.
 

Project title: MRV2PINN – Magnetic Resonance Velocimetry and Physics-Informed Neural Networks for complex, turbulent flows

Short description of the project:

The aim of the proposed project is to improve the accuracy of predictions of flow behaviour in highly turbulent, industrial applications using DL methods. To this end, extensive experimental data will be collected using magnetic resonance velocimetry (MRV).

Short description of the project:

This project examines the emergence of modern democracy during the Age of Revolutions (c. 1770–1830). It focuses on investigating the interplay between democratic, republican and feminist movements.
