DFG liaison officers

Each institution of higher education that is a member of the DFG may appoint a professor to act as a DFG liaison officer. The liaison officer serves as an on-site point of contact for researchers who are considering applying to the DFG for funding. The officer’s duties are mainly to provide information on

  • the different funding opportunities offered by the DFG
  • the proposal process, especially for those who are applying for the first time
  • other matters that may arise, for example questions that come up during the proposal process or following a funding decision

DFG – Review Boards at the University of Rostock

The main task of the members of the Review Boards is to scientifically evaluate the proposals to fund research projects. They also monitor the review process to ensure that uniform standards are being observed. The Review Boards members formulate a final recommendation for a decision, which is then submitted to the DFG's decision-making bodies together with the proposals (source: DFG).

Senate and Grants Committee on Research Training Groups

This Senate Committee is responsible for advising the DFG’s decision-making bodies on issues relating to Research Training Groups, for giving the final recommendation for draft proposals and for preparing the final decisions by the relevant Grants Committee. The members of this Senate Committee also serve as the academic and scientific members of the DFG Grants Committee on Research Training Groups (source: DFG).

The Grants Committee on Research Training Groups is responsible for the establishment and funding of Research Training Groups. The committee is made up of 39 scientists and academics elected by the DFG's Senate from all research areas, and two representatives of the federal government (Bund) and one representative from each of the 16 federal states (Länder) (source: DFG).

Senate

Guided by the principles defined by the General Assembly, the Senate advises and decides on all important affairs of the DFG which do not fall within the remit of the Joint Committee. It is therefore responsible for all important decisions relating to research funding prior to the final funding decision and for all important decisions relating to organising the review, assessment and decision-making processes. The Senate decides which review boards should be formed and how they should be structured (Source: DFG).
