Each institution of higher education that is a member of the DFG may appoint a professor to act as a DFG liaison officer. The liaison officer serves as an on-site point of contact for researchers who are considering applying to the DFG for funding. The officer’s duties are mainly to provide information on
- the different funding opportunities offered by the DFG
- the proposal process, especially for those who are applying for the first time
- other matters that may arise, for example questions that come up during the proposal process or following a funding decision
DFG – Review Boards at the University of Rostock
The main task of the members of the Review Boards is to scientifically evaluate the proposals to fund research projects. They also monitor the review process to ensure that uniform standards are being observed. The Review Boards members formulate a final recommendation for a decision, which is then submitted to the DFG's decision-making bodies together with the proposals (DFG).

Permanent Senate Commission on Animal Protection and Experimentation
The task of the SCCR is to advise policymakers and government authorities as well as the scientific community and the public on behalf of the Senate of the DFG (Source: DFG).
Expert Committee National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI)
The aim of the national research data infrastructure (NFDI) is to systematically manage scientific and research data, provide long-term data storage, backup and accessibility, and network the data both nationally and internationally. The NFDI will bring multiple stakeholders together in a coordinated network of consortia tasked with providing science-driven data services to research communities. (Source: DFG).
Senate
Guided by the principles defined by the General Assembly, the Senate advises and decides on all important affairs of the DFG which do not fall within the remit of the Joint Committee. It is therefore responsible for all important decisions relating to research funding prior to the final funding decision and for all important decisions relating to organising the review, assessment and decision-making processes. The Senate decides which review boards should be formed and how they should be structured (Source: DFG).
SCAR/IASC-National Committee
The German NK SCAR/IASC serves as national correspondence institution to the Scientific Committee on Antartic Research (SCAR) and the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC). In addition, the NK SCAR/IASC plans and coordinates the activities of German university research in the field of polar research together with the Alfred Wegener Institute and the relevant federal institutions, which also provide the necessary logistics for university research (Sources: DFG, SCAR/IASC).
