Re-registration by transferring the semester fee
If you intend to continue studying at the University of Rostock in the following semester, you have to re-register (this also applies if you are on leave of absence). Re-registration is the timely transfer of the current semester fee.
For re-registration for the summer semester 2025, a semester fee of 282,00Euro have to be transferred. PHD students pay 281,00 Euro.
Please do not confuse the semester fee with tuition fees. There are no tuition fees at the University of Rostock (with the exception of continuing education courses).
The semester fee is not used to finance teaching, but rather services that are provided for students. The University passes on the full semester fee of 282,00 Euro or 281,00 Euro per semester to the following places:
- 172,00 Euro goes to the nationwide semester ticket
- 99,00 Euro goes to the Rostock-Wismar student union
- 11,00 Euro goes to the student body (StuRa/AStA and student councils) (10,00 Euro only for PHD students)
Re-registration deadlines
for the winter semester: 01.06. to 15.07.
for the summer semester: 02.01. to 15.02.
If you re-register after the re-registration period, an additional administrative fee of 14,00 Euro havo to be paid to the University of Rostock's bank account from 16.07. or 16.02. (the date of receipt of the fee is decisive) in accordance with the University of Rostock's university fee regulations.

Student ID card arrives by post
After re-registration, we will send you your student ID card for the coming semester by post to the postal address given to the University of Rostock. Please make sure that your address is correct.
You can print out study certificates, including BAföG certificates, yourself in the student service of the online portal. You can also update your address details here.
Semester ticket as a nationwide ticket
The nationwide semester ticket (BWST) was introduced for the first time in the summer semester 2024. The Student Council (StuRa) of the University of Rostock decided on this on the basis of the survey results at its meeting on 06.12.2023.
Area of validity:
The nationwide semester ticket is valid beyond the city and district of Rostock throughout Germany in accordance with the conditions of the „Deutschlandticket“. It functions as a solidarity model; all students receive access to the ticket upon enrolment at the University of Rostock.
Bicycles are not included.

Student ID card:
The student ID card retains all other functions, such as borrowing items from the university libraries and using the culture ticket, but is no longer valid as a ticket for local public transport. This will primarily be made available digitally via the VVW app. In justified exceptional cases, an analog version can be requested as a chip card.
Loss / reprinting of the student ID card
If you lose your student ID card, please send an e-mail to studierendensekretariatuni-rostockde.
Reimbursement of the semester ticket by the AStA
In exceptional cases (only for special reasons), a refund of the part of the semester fee attributable to the semester ticket is possible. This is only possible via the General Students' Committee (AStA). For more information and to apply, please contact the ►AStA of the University of Rostock directly.
International Student Identity Card
ISIC - The International Students Identitiy Card offers discounts on entrance fees, train, bus, air and boat tickets as well as excursions for individual study programs worldwide.
