It could be an extraordinary concert in an unusual venue: The Institute of Physics at the University of Rostock has applied to host an NDR Kultur PopUp! concert featuring Annett Louisan—and is now on the shortlist. To ensure that the concert can actually take place in Rostock on Thursday, September 24, people in the region must first take action and cast their votes.

In about a week, Annett Louisan’s new—and now eleventh—studio album, “Sehnsucht”, will be released. She made her musical breakthrough 22 years ago with her debut album “Bohème” and the hit single “Das Spiel.” Since then, the 49-year-old has been one of the most popular German-language chanson and pop singers.
A vote will decide whether the NDR Kultur PopUp! concert will actually take place at the University of Rostock. And everyone can participate! You can vote for the respective location on the website ndr.de/popup and in the NDR Kultur app. In addition to Rostock, two other locations are in the running to host the concert. Each location has only one day to vote. NDR Kultur will announce which location is up for a vote each morning starting Monday, September 14, during its programming. The final vote will be determined on Thursday, September 17—and with it, whether the people of Rostock can look forward to an extraordinary concert experience.
An Unusual Venue: The Physics Lecture Hall
Normally, this is a place for quanta, particles, and the big questions of physics—but for one evening, the black physics lecture hall could become a concert hall. This unusual space, with its striking, dark architecture, has long been a cult favorite at the university and is affectionately called the “coffin” by students. For a concert by Annett Louisan, it would be not only a surprising setting but also a very special stage: intimate, atmospheric, and guaranteed to be different from a traditional concert hall.
That’s exactly what makes the NDR Kultur PopUp! concerts so appealing: artists are brought to places where you wouldn’t necessarily expect to find them. And where could this concept work better than in a place where physics is usually taught—and suddenly music fills the room?
Four concerts over four weeks throughout northern Germany: With its PopUp! concerts, NDR Kultur is currently bringing artists—who are usually accustomed to large concert halls—to special locations, offering unique concert experiences for people in the north.
