Mentoring for Women
Women in Germany receive an excellent education and are just as successful as men at all educational levels, up to and including the doctoral degree. Nevertheless, they remain significantly underrepresented in the academic system, particularly in top positions, on committees, and in business-oriented and technology-driven sectors.
This pattern is also evident at the University of Rostock. While women are strongly represented in higher education overall, their proportion remains significantly lower in certain fields of study, at higher levels of qualification, and in selected professional fields.
To counteract the so-called “Leaky Pipeline,” break down structural, disciplinary, and organizational cultural barriers, and specifically promote the proportion of female professors and female students in male-dominated academic and professional fields, the University of Rostock and Rostock University Medical Center are actively engaged in various mentoring programs.
