On 27 May 2026, the University of Rostock held its first Central Welcome Day for new employees. Around 30 colleagues took the opportunity to get to know the university better, receive important information for their day-to-day work, and establish initial contacts beyond their own departments.

The participants were welcomed by the Chancellor and the Vice-Rector for Research, Talent Development and Equal Opportunities. In their welcoming remarks, they warmly greeted the new employees and emphasized the importance of a successful start at our university.

Participants were then introduced to the structures and distinctive features of the University of Rostock. In addition, various units presented their responsibilities and support services.

A particular highlight of the event was the concluding World Café. At several discussion stations, the new colleagues had the opportunity to engage with representatives from different areas of the university, ask questions, and network with one another. The open atmosphere encouraged lively discussions and the formation of new professional connections.

The Central Welcome Day complements the decentralized onboarding activities conducted within the individual units and is intended to become a regular event. Its aim is to facilitate the integration of new employees into the University of Rostock, provide orientation, and promote networking from the very beginning.
