Different regulations apply to individuals entering the Federal Republic of Germany after a stay in regions with a particularly high risk of infection.

Please always take along a proof of enrolment or the admission letter in your hand luggage!

High risk areas

New: Areas of virus variants of concern + high incidence areas

  • Anyone who has been in any of these regions in the 10 days prior to entry is particularly obliged to carry proof (negative test result or corresponding medical certificate), confirming the absence of infection with the SARS CoV-2 coronavirus upon entry and to present it to the competent authority or the authority commissioned by it upon request. This test must have been carried out at the earliest 48 hours before entry.
  • The test performed must meet the requirements stated at www.rki.de/tests
  • You have to register before arrival in Germany at www.einreiseanmeldung.de and carry proof of registration with them on entry.

UPDATE December 18, 2020 – NEW QUARANTINE REGULATIONS

Dear students,

New quarantine regulations for Mecklenburg-Vorpommern have been introduced as of today, 18 December 2020. They are in place until 10 January 2021.

The news is that areas in Germany now also can be considered high risk areas if a certain number of cases arises over a period of 7 days. Before this regulation was enforced that was only true for areas outside Germany.

Amendment to
Quarantine Regulations for entering MV from higher risk-areas (in Germany)

What has changed?
Anyone returning to MV from private trips from high-risk areas in other federal states will have to be in quarantine in the future. Visits to the nuclear family and business trips within Germany are excluded.

What is a high risk area in Germany?
What is a high risk area? Counties and urban districts with an incidence rate of more than 200 new corona infections per incidence per hundred thousand inhabitants in the past 7 days are considered to be high-risk.

For how long do I need to be quarantined?
Anyone returning from such a high-risk area must report to the local health department (Gesundheitsamt) and be quarantined for ten days. The earliest possible time for free testing is after five days. Please keep this in mind for your exam period!

Please find below a daily updated list of municipalities and their incident rates here in this map by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI).

This might be important for you if you plan to visit friends or relatives in Germany over Christmas time. Please note that also the regulations entering from international high-risk areas are still in force.

Please also note that you should take into account the quarantine period if you plan to participate in exams in January. It is in your responsibility to organize your presence for exams.

Please do not take any unnecessary risks.

UPDATE December 16, 2020 – FULL LOCKDOWN

Dear students,

A full lockdown has been implemented starting as of today, 16 December 2020. The new regulations are in place until 10 January 2021.

These new measures are necessary because the „light lockdown” Germany implemented on 1 November could not stop the virus to the degree it needed to be stopped to get the pandemic better under control. We’ll keep you updated about further developments.

NEW MEASURES:

In addition to the measures implemented during the 1 November light lockdown, new measures are taken as follows:

  • all stores are closed, except for supermarkets, pharmacies, drugstores, shops for eyeware, banks, car & bike repair shops, etc.
  • travel (domestic and abroad) should be limited at all costs, except when necessary
  • meetings are allowed for groups of 5 people from two different households
  • for Christmas holidays only (24-26 December), those numbers can be raised a bit (by 4 more people from any household)
  • Religious services are generally allowed as long as they follow strong hygiene standards. But many communities offer alternative (online) services instead, so check before you go.
  • Schools and Kitas are closed now

STILL IN PLACE ARE THE FOLLOWING REGULATIONS:

  • restaurants, bars and clubs, as well as theatres and cinemas are closed
  • hotels are generally closed, but some remain open for “business travellers”
  • AHA hygiene regulations are still enforced: Please follow the new rules and help to stop this pandemic. While following the new rules, please continue following the existing rules. Wear your mask, keep the distance to other people and wash your hands regularly.
