FUNDING LINE 1: Talent Development


Research Fund of the Pro-Rector for Research, Talent Development and Equal Opportunities


OBJECTIVE OF THE RESEARCH FUND:

  • The research fund provides scientists at the University of Rostock with targeted support in preparing applications for third-party funding.
  • The provision of additional resources is intended to support the processing of the application project.

FOCUS OF FUNDING LINE 1:

  • Funding line 1 focuses on supporting the preparation of initial proposals to the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the preparation of proposals for the European Research Council (ERC) and is open to all disciplines..

TARGET GROUP:

  • The funding line is aimed at postdoctoral researchers at the University of Rostock (excluding UMR) who are at career stages R2* (postdocs) to R4* (professors).
    (*Classification according to the European Framework for Research Careers at euraxess.ec.europa.eu/career-development/researchers)

FUNDING SCOPE:

  • The maximum funding amount of €15,000 can be used to finance the following expenses:
    • Material costs (incl. travel expenses)
    • Personnel costs
    • Costs for assistants or
    • Teaching assignments
  • In principle, it is possible that the funding applied for from the research fund represents partial funding, i.e. the project receives additional funds for start-up financing.
  • The project duration is limited to a maximum of 12 months. Applications for a cost-neutral extension of funding can be approved in justified exceptional cases.
  • The granting of funding is subject to the availability of the promised budget funds of the University of Rostock.

APPLICATION DEADLINES:

  • The invitation to tender is issued twice a year.
  • The submission deadlines are May 1 and November 1. The first submission deadline after the start of the program is postponed to 31.05.2025.
  • Applications must be submitted via the ONLINE-APPLICATION PORTAL.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Scientific quality of the funding application (including preliminary work)
  • Potential of the project for attracting third-party funding
  • Contribution of the research project to further strengthening the research profile of the applicant and the associated institution

PROCEDURE:

  • Submission of applications according to the application template via the ONLINE-APPLICATION PORTAL.
  • Examination of the projects for their eligibility for funding by the Pro-Rectorate for Research, Talent Development and Equal Opportunities.
  • Forwarding the applications with a recommendation on eligibility for funding to the Senate Commission for Research, Science Transfer and Young Scientists.
  • Review of the recommendation for eligibility for funding by the Senate Commission for Research, Science Transfer and Early Career Researchers, prioritization of the submitted projects if necessary.
  • Funding decision by the Pro-Rector for Research, Talent Development and Equal Opportunities.
  • Preparation of an approval (the approved funds are transferred to a sub-cost center of the applicant) or rejection letter (rejections are generally not justified) letter probably 4-6 weeks after the application deadline.
  • Announcement of the funding decision by the Pro-Rector for Research, Talent Development and Equal Opportunities via the website of the University of Rostock and in reports of the Pro-Rectorate for Research, Talent Development and Equal Opportunities.

REPORTING OBLIGATION:

  • Submission of proof of submission of the project application to a third-party funding provider in the Pro-Rectorate for Research, Talent Development and Equal Opportunities.
  • Submission of a proof of use at the end of the financial year or a final report to the Pro-Rectorate for Research, Talent Development and Equal Opportunities no later than 3 months after the end of funding.
