Enrolment for undergraduate degree programs in the 1st semester

Enrolment for an undergraduate degree program, i.e. a degree program that leads to a first university degree (usually a Bachelor’s degree or state examination), is divided into admission-free and admission-restricted degree programs.

You can find out whether your desired degree program is admission-free or admission-restricted on the profile page of the respective degree program or in this. ► overview Information on the admission requirements can be found ►here.

Start of studies in winter or summer semester

Undergraduate degree programs at the University of Rostock generally always begin in the first semester in the winter semester, i.e. on 1 October of the year.

Among the undergraduate degree programs, only the Master’s degree program ‘Protestant Theology’ can be started in the summer semester (1 April of the year).

Enrolment for open-admission undergraduate degree programs

Enrolment for an undergraduate degree program at the University of Rostock takes place via the University of Rostock's Online Portal:

  • for the winter semester from 01 June to 30 September of the year,
  • for the summer semester from 01 February to 31 March of the year.

The portal required for this (see below) will be activated for this period.

First, you must create your personal account via ‘Register’, which you can use to check the status of your application at any time. You will then receive a confirmation e-mail to verify your e-mail address. Follow the instructions contained therein to activate your account. Please use a valid e-mail address that you check regularly. You will receive important information about the entire enrolment process.

You can now log in to the portal with your user name (displayed in the e-mail) and the password you have chosen yourself and start your enrolment.

ATTENTION: Students of the University of Rostock log in to the Online Portal under ‘Students’ with their university account and use the ‘Apply for a change of degree program’ button in the portal. You will find all further information on changing degree programs on the page on changing degree programs.

Provide details of the desired degree program and upload any required documents in PDF format. Please only upload complete documents!

Once you have entered all the required data, a print form will be issued in PDF format, which must be signed and sent by post to the address below together with all the required documents.

If the documents are incomplete, the missing documents must be submitted by the deadline. Missing documents will be displayed in the Online Portal.

Please allow for a processing time of approximately two weeks and refrain from making enquiries during this time.

Compliance with the enrolment deadline is not determined by the timely entry of data in the online portal, but by the receipt of the application by post with the accompanying documents.
Once the complete enrolment documents have been received and checked, provisional enrolment will take place and you will receive an email from the Registrar's Office asking you to transfer the current semester fee, stating the intended purpose. As soon as you have received notification from your health insurance provider and the semester fee has been credited to the University of Rostock account, final enrolment will take place and you will receive an email to activate your user account. Your student ID card will only be issued and sent once your user account has been activated. Study or BAföG certificates can then be printed out independently in the study service of the Online Portal (log in under Students with a university account).

Enrolment for undergraduate degree programs with restricted admission

Enrolment in admission-restricted degree programs requires a prior application in due time and the receipt of a letter of admission. Enrolment is initially carried out online via the University of Rostock's Online Portal within the deadlines specified in the letter of admission. The ‘Application for enrolment’ or, for existing students, the ‘Application for change of degree program or subject’ with the documents listed on it is then sent by post to the Registrar's Office by the deadline.
Your letter of admission may contain additional documents to be submitted.

Important information on health insurance
According to § 199a SGB V, data exchange between universities and health insurance companies is exclusively electronic. Please inform your health insurance company immediately that you have applied for enrolment at the University of Rostock and arrange for electronic proof of your insurance status to be sent. Please quote our dispatch number H0001053. Please note that this may take a few days. Privately insured persons must also contact a statutory health insurance fund to clarify their insurance status (‘exempt from compulsory insurance’ or ‘statutory insurance’). The required electronic notification can only be made by them.

Please do not staple or clip the documents and submit them in at least A5 format. The submitted documents will be destroyed after processing. Therefore, in your own interest, please do not attach any original documents to your documents, but only officially certified copies.

Enrolment can only be completed once all documents have been submitted in due time and form, the electronic notification from the health insurance company has been received by the University of Rostock and the semester fee has been transferred.

Confirmation of receipt of the documents will only be issued if a stamped and addressed postcard is enclosed as confirmation of receipt.
