Start of Studies in the Winter or Summer Semester

At the University of Rostock, degree programs generally begin in the 1st semester in the winter semester, specifically on October 1st of the year. However, some Master's programs may also start in the summer semester, i.e., on April 1st, for the 1st semester.

Admission Free or Admission Restricted

Enrollment in a Master's program distinguishes between degree programs with no admission restrictions and those with restricted admission. Regardless of whether there is an admission restriction, the specific admission requirements for each Master's program must be met first.

Enrollment in Master's Programs Without Admission Restrictions

The enrollment for a Master's program is done through the University of Rostock's online portal:

  • For the winter semester 2024/25, the application period is from June 1 to September 30, 2024.
  • For the summer semester, the application period is from February 1 to March 31 of the year.

The necessary portal (see below) will be activated for this period.

First, you need to create your personal account by clicking on "Register". This account will allow you to check the status of your application at any time.

ATTENTION: Students of the University of Rostock log in to the online portal under "Students" using their university account and use the button "Apply for Degree Program Admission / Change of Degree Program" within the portal. You can find all further information regarding program changes on the page dedicated to the topic of changing degree programs.

After completing the registration, you will receive a confirmation email to verify your email address. Please follow the instructions provided in the email to activate your account. Make sure to use a valid email address that you check regularly, as important information regarding the entire enrolment process will be sent to you via this address.

You can now log in to the portal using your username (which is shown in the email) and the password you chose during registration, and begin the enrolment process.

As part of your enrolment, provide information about your chosen program of study and upload any required documents in PDF format. Please upload complete documents only!

Please note that at this stage, no documents such as cover letters or certificates need to be submitted by post. If any additional documents are required, you will be informed via the online portal.
Even for non-restricted Master's degree programs, it must be verified whether the specific admission requirements for the program are met. This verification is carried out by the examination offices of the respective faculty and may take several weeks. Please refrain from making enquiries during this period. As soon as a decision has been made regarding your application, you will receive further information via the online portal.

In the case of admission, you must apply for enrolment through the online portal. After entering all the required information, an application form in PDF format will be generated, which must be signed and sent by post along with all required documents to the address provided below. Please refer to the notification for the relevant deadlines.
If any documents are missing, they must be submitted within the specified deadline. Missing documents will be displayed to you in the online portal.
Once the complete enrolment documents have been received and reviewed, provisional enrolment will take place, and you will receive an email from the Student Secretariat requesting you to transfer the current semester fee, specifying the mentioned reference purpose.
Once the confirmation from your health insurance provider has been received and the semester fee has been credited to the University of Rostock’s account, final enrolment will take place, and you will receive an email to activate your user account.
Only after the activation of your user account will your student ID be created and sent to you. Confirmation of enrolment or BAföG certificates can then be printed independently through the Study Service in the online portal (log in with your university account).
