Information about PhD programs for international students
As a research-oriented comprehensive university with numerous academic institutions in its vicinity, the University of Rostock offers a wide range of opportunities for doctoral studies. To ensure an optimal start to your doctorate, you will find comprehensive information about the doctoral process on the University of Rostock’s website.
The doctoral regulations of each faculty define the framework and procedural rules. Therefore, the faculties are directly responsible for the quality of the doctoral studies, adherence to the rules ensuring good scientific practice, the prevention of scientific misconduct, and the administrative procedures related to the doctorate. Please consult the websites of your respective faculty for more information.
If you are planning to start a doctoral program at the University of Rostock and you previously studied at an international university, you must submit your application via the Uni-Assist service platform.
Please note Uni-Assist's processing time, as retroactive enrollment into a semester that has already ended is not possible due to administrative regulations.
Once your application has been successfully reviewed, you will receive an evaluation report from uni-assist. As soon as you have received this, you can submit your application via the University of Rostock's online portal.
First, you have to create a personal account by clicking on “Register”. This will allow you to check the status of your application at any time.
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email to verify your email address. Please follow the instructions in the email to activate your account. Make sure to use a valid email address that you check regularly, as you will receive important information about the application and enrolment process via this email address.
You can then log in to the portal with your username (provided in the email) and the password you have chosen and start your enrolment. Enter details about your desired course of study and upload all required documents in PDF format. Please ensure that only complete documents are uploaded.
After your online documents have been reviewed, you will receive feedback via the online portal. If your documents are complete, you will receive an admission and can apply for enrolment online. If your documents are incomplete, the missing documents must be submitted as soon as possible. Missing documents will be displayed in the online portal.
Once you have entered all the required data, an application form in PDF format will be generated. This form has to be printed, signed and sent to the address below together with all the required documents.
Please allow approximately two weeks for processing and refrain from making inquiries during this time.
Once your complete enrolment documents have been received and reviewed, you will be provisionally enrolled and will receive an email from the Student Secretariat asking you to transfer the current semester fee, stating the purpose of the transfer. As soon as the semester fee has been credited to the University of Rostock's account, you will be finally enrolled and will receive an email to activate your user account. Your student ID card will only be created and sent to you once your user account has been activated. Study and BAföG certificates can then be printed out independently in the Student Services section of the online portal (login with your university account).
