The researchers at SFB Limati demonstrate that excellent research and innovative teaching go hand in hand – a concept confirmed by top marks in course evaluations.
Dr. Fennel created a motivating learning atmosphere that encouraged discussions and peer-to-peer learning through the use of the digital tool Cliqr. Compact learning summaries and illustrative experiments helped students better understand physical phenomena and consolidate lecture content.
Eric Lieberwirth connected theoretical knowledge with practical school applications in his course for future teachers. By integrating curriculum-aligned experiments and innovative teaching methods like the jigsaw technique, he fostered a practical and interactive learning environment.
Tim Völzer also received praise for his excellent teaching in practical laboratory sessions. He approached the sessions with thorough preparation and demonstrated patience and openness in addressing all student questions. Through his guidance, students were able to bridge the gap between experiment manuals and actual measurements, progressing step by step through the experiments. His detailed feedback on lab reports was particularly noteworthy, as it was carefully designed to support learning and achieving educational goals. His comments included comprehensive summaries at the beginning of the reports, as well as LaTeX code suggestions to help students improve formatting and presentation.
Dr. Fennel, Eric Lieberwirth, and Tim Völzer are among the nine teaching award winners of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Rostock for the summer semester 2024. The awards were presented in a formal ceremony by the Dean, Oliver Kühn, on December 5, 2024. The winners were selected based on evaluations conducted by the student councils of the respective institutes.
Congratulations to the awardees for this well-deserved recognition and for their dedication to teaching excellence!
