In general, there is a clear process for applying for compensation for disadvantages: 

1. Consultation with the representative for disabled and chronically ill students.
2. Submission of Application by the student.
3. Review of the Application by the Examination Office.
4. rejection or approval

In case of rejection: you can file an objection.

Until now, there is no possibility, to to the application online. But the consulting with the representative can be done online. The needed documents for the application can be sent via Email to the Examination office.

Yes, the compensation for disadvantages is just for Exams, including prerequisites for exams and attendance requirements.

To apply for the compensation for disadvantages you need the following documents: 

- a completed application for compensation of disadvantages (form available from the relevant admissions office)
The application must be accompanied by supporting documentation, such as:
- a medical or psychotherapeutic certificate or statement 
- a determination notice from the Social Security Office regarding a disability or severe disability
- a copy of the severe disability ID card
 

In this case, it’s a good idea to schedule a consultation with the representative for students with disabilities and chronic illnesses, or with the student assistant; this may make the process a little easier. A consultation is helpful in this situation and you should definitely take advantage of it.

Contact persons

Due to the processing times involved, it is important to apply for compensation well in advance to ensure that the application is approved or denied by the time of the respective exam or semester assessment.
For semester assessments: by the end of the previous semester or at the start of the break between semesters.
For exams during the official exam period: at the beginning of the respective semester.

The Compensation is always decides on individual basis. Thats why it is difficult to provide a specific list about what the compensation might look like. 

Examples of measures that can be implemented: 
- time and space adjustments (e.g. changing rooms, extending the time, breaks) 
- Changes in the exam format
- exemption from spelling erros
- repetition of questions (in oral exams)
- permission to use aids
- permission for personal assistance

To apply for the compensation, you must include supporting documentation with your application. In most cases, this takes the form of a medical statement. The diagnosis does not need to be specified in the statement. The person advising you may learn about your diagnosis. However, it’s important to note that the focus here is not specifically on the diagnosis itself, but primarily on the symptoms associated with your diagnosis—the very symptoms that are the basis for your application for disability compensation.

Information regarding the use of one or more compensation during the course of study (whether for seminar assignments or exams) is not noted on the diploma. Consequently, the use of compensation does not constitute grounds for any disadvantage after you complete your studies.

If the request for compensation is approved by the relevant examination office, the student will be notified of the decision in writing. This written notification will list the approved compensation. The student must then present this notification to the relevant instructors/examiners.

A denial of an application for compensation must include a written explanation and information on available legal remedies. Consequently, it is possible—and in certain cases advisable—to file a written appeal. In this case, seeking further consultation may be helpful.

There are currently no regulations on this matter. however, the new higher education act of MV is expected to include new provisions on this topic. We will keep you informed here as soon as more information becomes available.
