Course description:
Ethical concerns in academic publishing encompass issues such as proper authorship credit, transparent peer review, combating plagiarism, and ensuring integrity in data reporting. The push for open access, while promoting knowledge sharing, faces challenges from predatory publishers. This seminar explores the ethical issues of academic publishing and scientific misconduct, tailored primarily for early-career scholars across different disciplines, including medicine, informatics, and humanities.

Information about the lecturer
Gert Helgesson serves as a Professor of Medical Ethics at the Department of Learning, Informatics, Management, and Ethics at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm. His research covers a wide range of topics, from research ethics, including areas like plagiarism and authorship, to the ethical challenges faced by physicians in life-and-death decisions. Professor Gert Helgesson is recognized as one of Sweden’s leading and internationally acknowledged medical ethicists, with the Karolinska Institutet, his home institution, internationally renowned for research in medical ethics. In June 2024, Gert Helgesson will be joining the Department ‘Aging of Individuals and Society’ as a Mare Balticum Fellow.
