The application and enrolment process can be carried out via different portals.
For all undergraduate degree programmes and all Master's degree programmes in the first semester, application and enrolment via the University of Rostock's online portal is required. Enrolment as a doctoral student must also be applied for via the portal.
Applications for the degree programmes in Human Medicine and Dentistry in the first semester are made exclusively via hochschulstart.de. https://www.hochschulstart.de/ If you are admitted, you must apply for enrolment via the University of Rostock's online portal. Are you currently a student at the University of Rostock? Then it is not necessary to register as a new applicant. Please log in with your user account under the ‘Students’ tab.
Are you not currently a student? You only have the option of creating a one-off account. If you have created an account within the last 365 days and no longer have your login details, please use the ‘Forgot your login details?’ function under the ‘Applicants’ tab.
For some degree programmes, demand is greater than the available capacity. In these cases, the degree programme is subject to admission restrictions and a selection procedure takes place.

Three applications can be submitted for degree programmes with restricted admission. There is no ranking of applications.
No, waiting semesters are no longer a criterion in the selection procedure at the University of Rostock.
The required minimum duration must be completed by the end of the application deadline at the latest. The certificate must not be older than 2 months if the service has not yet been completed. If you have taken English (or another language) up to the Abitur, you can provide proof of at least B2 proficiency with your Abitur certificate. If required in the application process, please upload your Abitur certificate in PDF format as proof of language proficiency.

You can apply for enrolment for a maximum of 2 degree programmes.
In the case of an open-admission degree programme, you will receive a place if you meet the relevant admission requirements. If you would like to study two degree programmes at the same time, please note this manually on both application forms for enrolment.
Why can I only choose the third or fifth semester for enrolment in my desired subject, even though I want to enrol in the first semester?
The study programme is probably subject to admission restrictions for the 1st semester. Please visit https://www.uni-rostock.de/studium/studienangebot/alle-studiengaenge-und-abschluesse/ to find out about the current admission restrictions.
The application deadline for admission-restricted degree programmes for the winter semester is from 1 June to 15 July of the year.
If you have already completed a degree programme at the time of application or enrolment in a new degree programme, apply for a second degree programme.
A written application for a second degree programme must only be submitted for degree programmes with admission restrictions. If you have completed a Bachelor's degree programme and are applying for a postgraduate Master's degree programme, you must choose the ‘consecutive Master's degree programme’ option.
In principle, no documents need to be submitted in addition to the online application. Please do not submit any application documents, certificates or certificates of service. Your online application will be checked by the Examinations Office and the Registrar's Office. If you fulfil all admission requirements, your status will change and you can apply for enrolment online.
- You fulfil the admission requirements - the application status changes from ‘received’ to ‘admitted’ and you can enrol online. You then send the signed application form with the required documents to the Registrar's Office.
- You will receive an admission with conditions - you will receive a letter of admission by post and must submit any missing documents or academic achievements within a specified period. Your application status will change from ‘received’ to ‘admitted’ and you can complete the online enrolment process. You then send the signed application form with the required documents to the Registrar's Office.
- You do not fulfil the admission requirements - the application status changes from ‘received’ to ‘excluded’. You will receive a reasoned rejection letter by post.
Please do not de-register! Students of the University of Rostock log in to the campus portal under ‘Students’ with their university account and use the ‘Apply for a change of degree programme’ button in the portal.
You must submit the officially certified copy of your university entrance qualification together with your enrolment application.
Are original documents accepted by the University of Rostock? How do I obtain a certified copy?
The submitted documents will be destroyed after processing. Therefore, in your own interest, please do not attach any original documents to your documents, but only officially notarised copies.

Once you have been admitted to a degree programme with admission restrictions or a degree programme without admission restrictions, you can apply for enrolment online. You must answer various questions truthfully, including questions about your higher education entrance qualification and, if applicable, your study history.
A PDF document (application for enrolment) will then be generated. This application must be signed and sent to the Registrar's Office by the deadline together with the documents listed on it. If any documents are missing or incorrect, you will be notified in the application portal - so please check your application in the portal regularly.
If all documents have been submitted on time, provisional enrolment will take place and you will receive an email requesting payment. It will also be noted here if your electronic health insurance registration is still missing. Once the fee has been received and the health insurance registration has been submitted, you will be properly enrolled and you will receive the access data for your student account.

For enrolment at the University of Rostock, you must submit a current, complete (without gaps) curriculum vitae in tabular form from the age of 16 with date and signature. Please also note any periods of orientation, stays abroad, etc.

Confirmation of receipt of documents will only be sent if a stamped and addressed postcard has been enclosed as confirmation of receipt.
Please check the application status in the online portal regularly. If your application has the status “Enrolment in progress”, we have received your application documents.
The full current semester fee must always be paid for enrollment, regardless of the date of enrollment.
Please wait until you receive a payment request by e-mail after provisional enrollment.
German prospective students / Bildungsinländer: You will receive the activation access data for your university account by e-mail after successful enrolment.
International prospective students: You will first receive your access data for the application portal with your letter of admission. You will receive the activation access data for your university account by e-mail after successful enrolment
For the degree programs Human Medicine and Dentistry in 1st semester: After accepting an offer of admission, please link the accounts first; after enrollment you will receive the activation access data by e-mail.
Once you have successfully enrolled, you can retrieve your certificate of enrollment in the online portal's Student Services under the “Notifications” tab.
After proper enrolment and activation of your university account, we will send you your student ID for the coming semester by post to the postal address given to the University of Rostock. Please make sure that your address is entered correctly in the Student Service.
Student ID cards are sent out from the beginning of September for the winter semester and from the beginning of March for the summer semester.

If your reason for payment contains your full name and/or matriculation number, the amount can usually still be allocated.
If you have transferred an amount that is too low, please transfer the remaining amount as soon as possible.

If you lose your student ID card, please contact the Registrar's Office by email at studierendensekretariatuni-rostockde.
You can apply for a refund of the full semester fee for the coming semester until 31.03. for the respective summer semester and until 30.09. for the respective winter semester.
First of all, please check in the online portal's student service whether your account is balanced or whether there is a re-registration block.

Yes, you are still enrolled at the University of Rostock even during a semester of leave and must pay the full semester fee for re-registration.
It is not mandatory, but the Student Office recommends re-registration. As it could be problematic if the defense is not passed.
If you are unsure, please contact your examination office.
You can change your address yourself via the student service of the online portal. Please make sure that the street name is spelled correctly and, in the case of a hall of residence, also enter the corresponding room number.
All certificates can be downloaded independently from the study service of the online portal.
If you wish to end your studies at the University of Rostock, e.g., after successfully completing your studies, due to a planned change of university location or for other reasons, and would like to receive a corresponding certificate, you must submit an application for de-registration. After successful deregistration, you will find the certificate of deregistration in the study service of the online portal of the University of Rostock. After deregistration, you will have access to the certificates stored in the Student Service for 30 days after the date of deregistration. Please save your certificates in good time.
