Language courses accompanying your studies

The language centre offers language courses accompanying your studies at various levels during lecture periods, that you can attend in addition to your studies.
In order to register for a language course that requires prior skills, you will need to complete a placement test on your PC to ensure that you are allocated to the relevant course level.

There is an opportunity for taking the placement test and for registration for the German courses in the language centre during the Orientation Week for new international students at the start of the semester.

A small course fee needs to be paid for the language courses - visiting students sometimes have it reimbursed by their home universities. All ERASMUS+ students, who have guest student status, are entitled to attend one German course per semester free of charge. For all the other courses that you wish to attend, you will need to pay the same course fees as all the other students.

Further information about the languages on offer, the course dates, and the course fees can be found on the language centre website. Language Centre at the University of Rostock

You can also make use of the language centre online range of courses.

With SPEEXX Campus you can learn various languages online during the semester.

Cultural peculiarities are also important, not just the language - that’s where SAIL COMPASS comes in. This project will help you to integrate both linguistically and culturally in academic life at the University of Rostock.

Whichever way you choose to learn a language, learning in pairs is the most fun. The Tandem Programme is there to find you a language partner. Here you can offer fellow students your mother tongue to learn, whilst you learn their mother tongue in return.

Preparatory German courses

The University of Rostock does not offer any preparatory courses. However, you can attend a course with our cooperation partner “Study-in-Germany-Rostock e.V.” which will be subject to a fee.
