Welcome to Rostock!
The German Rectors’ Conference (HRK) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) condemn the attack on Ukraine. We are shocked by recent events and are doing everything we can together to support Ukrainians who have fled to Rostock. The Ministry of Education of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is also announcing financial support for Ukrainians who have fled their country.

    The refugee service at the University of Rostock advises prospective and current students with refugee status about the opportunities for studying in Rostock and provides support with finding accommodation.

    Rostock International House offers language courses for refugees.

  • DAAD - Students at Risk – Hilde Domin Programme
    The Hilde Domin Programme supports at-risk students and doctoral candidates in all fields of study except medicine. Nominations for the winter semester 2023/24 must be received by Rostock International House by 15 September 2022.

  • Research at the University of Rostock
    The Welcome Center at the University of Rostock advises refugee academics about the opportunities of studying in Rostock and provides support with finding accommodation.

  • Philipp Schwartz Initiative
    The Humboldt Foundation provides funding for at-risk academics for up to 24 months via the Philipp Schwartz Initiative. The application deadline has been extended to 18 March 2022. Applications must be submitted via Rostock International House.
     
  • IIE-SRF Fellowship
    The Institute of International Education’s Scholar Rescue Fund provides fellowships for at-risk academics and public intellectuals for up to one year. Applications can be submitted directly.
     
  • German Research Foundation (DFG)
    The Walter Benjamin Programme supports academics in the qualification phase following their doctorate independently to implement their own research project at the location of their choice.
     
  • Volkswagen Foundation - Funding for Refugee Scholars and Scientists from Ukraine
    The Volkswagen Foundation is supporting Ukrainian scholars and scientists from all disciplines. Applications can be submitted to the university at any time.
     
  • EURAXESS Germany
    EURAXESS Germany provides information for refugees, international students and academics. The service can be used by refugee academics to search for a host academic organisation.

  • Accommodation
    Refugees looking for accommodation or people from Rostock who know refugees looking for accommodation can contact us by email at aufnahmerostockde or by phone on +49(0)381-381-5009.

    If refugees reach Rostock late in the evening, they can access emergency accommodation at the hostel in Langenort:

    The ROSTOCK HILFT association arranges housing in Rostock and offers additional support for refugees.
     
  • Psychosocial counselling
    For psychosocial problems, refugees and migrants can get help and support from the Psychosocial Centre in Rostock.
     
  • Legal advice
    Refugees can contact the Law Clinic Rostock for legal advice about residence. The Clinic gives advice on Wednesdays and Fridays between 15:00 and 17:00.
