Eine Woche (21. bis 28. November) führen eigens vorbereitete Termine zu Universitäten, Forschungsinstituten, Unternehmen und Investoren in Tokyo und der Kansai-Region. Ziel ist, am Ende der Woche belastbar einschätzen zu können, ob Japan ein tragfähiger Markt für die eigene Technologie ist.
Angesprochen sind Promovierende, Postdocs und forschungsnahe Gründungsinteressierte. Voraussetzung ist die Anbindung an eine deutsche Universität oder ein Forschungsinstitut, eine Gründung ist nicht nötig. Pro Team reist eine Person mit, insgesamt werden bis zu zehn Teams ausgewählt. Die Plätze sind begrenzt, bei Zusage werden die Kosten übernommen.
Der Aufwand ist gering: Die Bewerbung ist einstufig, im Kern braucht es nur ein Pitch Deck und eine kurze Beschreibung der Idee. Da die Zahl der Bewerbungen bislang überschaubar ist, stehen die Chancen aktuell vergleichsweise gut. Rückmeldungen wird es voraussichtlich Ende August geben.

Last call: to Japan with the DWIH, apply by 10 August
Only a few days left: applications for the DWIH Deep Tech Launchpad Japan 2026 are open until 10 August. As partners of the University of Rostock, the German Centres for Research and Innovation open doors this November that are hard to open from Rostock alone.
For one week (21 to 28 November), individually prepared meetings lead to universities, research institutes, companies, and investors in Tokyo and the Kansai region. By the end of the week, participants can reliably assess whether Japan is a viable market for their technology.
The programme addresses Ph.D. students, postdocs, and research-based founders-to-be. Applicants need to be affiliated with a german university or a research institute; founding is not required. One person travels per team, and up to ten teams are selected in total. Places are limited; if accepted, all costs are covered.
The effort is low: the application is single-stage, essentially just a pitch deck and a short description of the idea. As the number of applications so far is still manageable, the chances are currently comparatively good. Feedback is expected by the end of August.
