Forensic Neuroscience: How neuroscientific insights can add to forensic psychology
Although neuroscientific insights are increasingly integrated in clinical mental health practice, these have been somewhat neglected in forensic mental healthcare. Recent developments in neuroscience not only have led to increased knowledge about the etiology of psychopathology, but it has also contributed to an increased awareness of the potential role of neuroscience in forensic psychiatry and psychology. For instance, neuroscientific methods may be used for detecting psychiatric problems in defendants. Additionally, there is an increased interest in using neuroscientific knowledge concerning the assessment and treatment of psychopathology related to antisocial and violent behavior, for example using electroencephalography and neuromodulation techniques.
During the lecture, different topics related to forensic neuroscience will be covered and several empirical research outcomes will be discussed.
