Modern Lab Documentation With Electronic Lab Notebooks

Good research requires structured and detailed documentation in order to be reproducible and sustainable. To ensure this requirement, laboratory notebooks are kept according to guidelines of good scientific practice. To overcome the disadvantages of traditional analog lab books, such as lack of search functions and secure backups, numerous digital alternatives, so-called electronic lab books, have been developed. This course gives an insight into the world of electronic lab books and introduces the elabFTW system as one example. The participants learn practically how to use an ELN. This includes the creation of own documentation, database entries and best practices.
