Course description:
Ethics in the digitalization of medicine encompasses considerations such as trust, digital privacy, and informed consent, especially within the realm of big data. This seminar explores the vital aspects of trust, privacy, and autonomy (informed consent) against the backdrop of the evolving digital landscape in healthcare. It is designed for both early-career scholars and anyone interested in the ethical dimensions of medicine in the era of big data.

Information about the lecturer
Gert Helgesson serves as a Professor of Medical Ethics at the Department of Learning, Informatics, Management, and Ethics at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm. His research covers a wide range of topics, from research ethics, including areas like plagiarism and authorship, to the ethical challenges faced by physicians in life-and-death decisions. Professor Gert Helgesson is recognized as one of Sweden’s leading and internationally acknowledged medical ethicists, with the Karolinska Institutet, his home institution, internationally renowned for research in medical ethics. In June 2024, Gert Helgesson will be joining the Department ‘Aging of Individuals and Society’ as a Mare Balticum Fellow.
